my philosophy

Happy 3rd Birthday, Boonie!

Today is a very special day, friends! If you know anything about me, you know that I love many things: my family, my husband, the color pink, Jimmy Fallon, Disney… and Boone! Really – when I say love, I don’t even think that word can properly justify how I feel about this sweet boy. (Obsessive? Definitely. Crazy? Perhaps. 🙂 ) But my goodness, Boonie Bear is worth all of it and deserves to be celebrated and spoiled every day (which is his reality). But today, on his birthday, I think it’s safe to say that he’ll get a little extra dose. 🙂

Happy 3rd Birthday, Boonie Bear! It’s so hard to believe that you completely (and unexpectedly) changed my life around this time 3 years ago. I had just moved back home to Virginia after living in Orlando and working at Walt Disney World for 6 months. Although I was so, so truly happy to be back home with my family and (then) boyfriend (now husband!), the next few months into my future definitely had some uncertainty. I was so stressed over finding a full-time job, worrying that I’d be unemployed for the rest of my life. (It all worked out – don’t worry!) But on that fateful day in March, I received a text from Benjamin that would be the first step in realizing you were a part of a greater plan all along. “Getting a dog now?! We can’t do that,” I said. “It’s just not the right timing,” I said. Well, we met you on March 25, 2014 (oh yes, I have every initial encounter documented) and the rest is history. I will never forget your sweet, baby blue eyes, your chubby and squishy little face, and the look you gave me that made me realize there was no doubt that you were meant to be mine. You immediately snuggled up under my neck, my heart shattered into a million pieces, and I knew you were my boy forever.

March 25, 2014 - The day we fell in love with Boone when he was 4 and a half weeks old. I mean, COME ON, Y'ALL.

Turns out that the timing couldn’t have been better for you to come into our lives. And, it also turns out that Benjamin had been planning for you for quite some time. On July 4, 2014, I later found out that you were meant to be a crucial part of our engagement all along. The first step was bringing you home to us, but the sweetest was how you were involved when your Daddy got down on one knee and asked me to spend the rest of my life with him. I completely lost it when I saw your new dog tag that displayed, “Will you marry me, Brooklyn Jean Jarvis?” after we got off the hot air balloon, and I am so thankful that your Daddy knew I would want you to be there in that special moment. And fast forward to the BIG day when there was never any question of you being there with us on our wedding day, too. None of these moments would have been the same without you.

The last (almost) three years with you have been so incredibly special. For a girl who had never had a dog before, I feel so lucky and blessed to have you as my first. I love your sweet kisses and warm cuddles. I love how excited you are to welcome me home every day. I love how you use your paw to move the couch pillows to the perfect spot so you have the perfect position to lay your head on them. I love how you could be on the other side of the house but somehow realize the exact moment I pull cheese out of the refrigerator. I love how you grunt and sound like a pig whenever I give you a hug. I love how expressive your eye brows are (like, Ace-Ventura-expressive, y’all). I love how much you love your baby brother (and how much he loves you). I love how you immediately jump into my spot in the bed when I say it’s time to go “night night”, but how you always scoot over to give me just a little room. I could go on and on about how perfect you are (and yes, I realize it’s ridiculous that I’ve gone this far). 😉 All of this to say, I am so, so proud to be your puppy mama, Boonie Bear. And I am completely unashamed to say you will always and forever be my very favorite.

Happy, Happy Birthday, Boone! I hope this year is full of lots of cheese, peanut butter, Kong Wubbas, W-A-L-Ks (we spell it because the dog completely spazzes out when he hears the word), BarkBoxes, car rides with Maw Maw and Paw Paw, and belly rubs for you. I have a feeling you won’t be disappointed.

Since Boonie is the official mascot of Brooke Shehan Events, I thought it’d be fun to take a look back at some pictures from his past birthdays. (And yes, he has a birthday party every year. Tradition continues with his 3rd tonight!) Isn’t Kathy Jennings Photography THE BEST, y’all?! Oh, and don’t forget to leave our sweet boy some birthday love below! 😉
